Babywearing is not a lonely activity – Cuddles are certain, but did you know there is also a wonderful community that you can discover at Slingmeets , Babywearing events, and online?
AngelRock Baby is based on the East Coast of our beautiful and enormous country; far on the other edge of our wide land there is a very similar Mum – at Carry My Baby. Fiona is on the West Coast, between us there is a lot of distance, and yet we have become friends through the like-minded approach we have to our children (7 between us) and how we juggle our businesses with our families.
Just as we teach our children to be generous and kind, that sharing and helping make more people happy – AngelRock Baby & Carry My Baby find that when we help each other out we keep our customers satisfied. You are the reason we have filled rooms with gorgeous woven wraps, spectacular ringslings, fabulous carriers and everything else we can fit in! We both like to give great customer service, and we understand that some customers prefer to shop locally.
There are a few brands that we share, such as LittleFrog and Manduca – so when we both decided it was Giveaway O’Clock we thought you would enjoy getting a chance in both our competitions. Fiona has been kind enough to post off a LittleFrog to my customers when I have been short on size or colour, and I’ve been happy to return the favour. Usually you wouldn’t ever know – but if you have checked tracking and found your fluffy mail is coming from an unexpected direction you should know that two families have helped you wear your precious bub. We both love the closeness and practicality of carrying our own children, and we are looking forward to helping more babies enjoy their own cuddles-on-legs 🙂
There are many friends I have made along the way as I enjoy my journey of Motherhood. Mother’s groups, Playgroups, Swimming lessons, Library Storytime – there are many, many avenues for new friendships to be discovered. One of the groups I regularly spend time with is my local babywearing group. No matter where you live there are bound to be other parents not too far from you. By joining your local Slingmeet group you can enjoy mornings in the park, or an afternoon at someone’s house, you will learn more about carrying, or you can share the tips and tricks that you have mastered. In October we will celebrate International Babywearing Week – make sure you find your local group before then, this is a party where EVERYONE is welcome!

WE HAVE A WINNER! HAPPY FATHERS DAY EVERYONE – PLEASE CHECK YOUR EMAILS!
Did you come along to One Fine Baby, Sydney, August 16-17th? AngelRock Baby was one of the first little businesses to take part in what was the first ever One Fine Baby Fair.
It was a fabulous weekend, I was thrilled to meet so many wonderful families, expectant parents, babywearing friends – and also to see the showcase of other stalls displaying beautiful and unique baby products and services.
I promised you a giveaway – I promised it would be BIG! Well, here it is! Over the weekend of the fair I spoke with many people about how to choose and use a fabulous way to carry your baby or toddler. There was quite a bit of interest in woven wraps, ringslings, stretchy wraps – but the most tried on product I introduced people to was the soft structured carrier, specifically the MANDUCA carrier. Some of the things to look for in a high quality carrier that you can use with confidence are safety features and optimal design. If you took home one of my Goodie Bags then you will have already read about T.I.C.K.S. – the guidelines for carrying your child safely.
Manduca carriers are made specifically to allow you to carry your precious child TIGHT, IN VIEW AT ALL TIMES, CLOSE ENOUGH TO KISS, KEEPING CHIN OFF THE CHEST, SUPPORTING THE BACK. These simple points prevent accidents and injuries to your child, particularly in the first 4 months. In addition the Manduca design offers an inbuilt newborn insert which aides your baby (from 3.5kg) to be held in an ergonomic position. Double buckles give you an easy to adjust carrier that you can enjoy wearing on your front, hip or back for maximum versatility, and allow for crossing the straps which is very comfortable when carrying your child on your front. A handy zip-open extension gives extra height for a taller child, as you can carry up to a 20kg child in these strong and practical carriers. In the sun, or when bub has fallen asleep you will discover the hood tucked inside the body panel, some mums like to use this when breastfeeding on the go.
These new designs from Manduca are two of their Limited Edition collection. The names of these stylish, geometric designs are TrueDiamond and TrueEmerald. I couldn’t decide which to give away – so the winner can choose which they prefer. Along with your new carrier you will also win an accessory pack – bringing the total cost of the prize (including post within Australia) to just over $310. That’s a pretty fabulous Father’s Day present!
When you carry your little one in a Manduca they can have optimal positioning – little legs should be held in a spread-squat position – the natural and healthy position in which a baby clings to it’s parent. What does this position look like? Upright, (this also reduces the risk of suffocation that is associated with certain slings in which the baby lies down and the airway can be compromised) Facing In to the parent, (all the better to cling – and this protects the infant spine which is naturally in a soft C shape rather than ‘straight’/S-shaped), Knee-to-knee support, (for comfort, as well as to hold the hips in a healthy ‘M’ position with knees at navel level, encouraging good hip development). And you are not forgotten, the comfortable belt goes firmly around your waist to help distribute weight evenly – this is especially helpful for those who have aching shoulder/neck/back from other ways of carrying their child).
This giveaway is offered by AngelRock Baby (NSW, Australia) along with Carry My Baby (WA, Australia). For more information on this exciting collaboration check out the post Carry My AngelRock Baby

My soon-to-be beautiful website for AngelRock Jewellers is just waiting on me to finish making my new collection featuring Broken Bay Akoya Pearls. As soon as they are complete and photographed they will be added (with some other jewellery) to www.angelrockjewellers.com.au so that you can see what we can do with four hands, a workshop full of tools, your choice of sterling silver, gold, platinum, titanium and other materials, and two heads full of ideas.
The coming together of AngelRock is a bit like a patchwork quilt, with many different elements co-existing. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do.

In March 2013 I made the decision to begin AngelRock Baby. The soft-launch of our brand follows the growth of our teaser “Baltic Amber & Babywearing” that existed at markets and on Facebook for over a year, introducing the combination of Genuine Baltic Amber and ways to learn about products and techniques for babywearing. At first I operated under my existing business, AngelRock Jewellers, but it didn’t take long for me to discover that my new venture needed space to grow and blossom.
As I intended when I began to stock woven wraps, ringslings and hipseats, my knowledge and experience have deepened and brought me into a community that thrives on the very precious Love between parent and child, the sweet friendship between supportive friends and the beautiful wisdom from ancient times that older women still pass on to younger girls.
Teaching, listening, learning, encouraging and nurturing – these rituals are a wonderful way to share our gifts with one another. I am lucky to have been trained as a Babywearing Consultant, by Ulrike Hower, Die Trageschule, and by the group of people who organised the first Australian Babywearing Conference in 2013, now known as Babywearing Education Australia. I am honoured when a new parent trusts me to help them begin their own Babywearing journey. I am blessed with three gorgeous children who I continue to enjoy carrying (well the eldest one only goes up for short moments now). I am delighted to have made some truly special friendships within the Babywearing community, I have learned much from you and I enjoy travelling in company!
Something very close to my own heart is the safety and well being of our precious babies, and this is behind my grass roots campaign to boost awareness of why and how accidents can happen, I am determined to be part of the movement that stops the sale, advertisement and use of the types of slings and carriers that have cost some parents the lives of their babies. When we know better, we do better – lets talk loudly about what we know is the BEST and SAFEST practise for babywearing.
Another passion of mine is inclusion – whether a baby, child or adult has a special need, a medical condition or a disability – Babywearing can be a wonderful way of life. For a person who faces restrictions in other parts of their life to discover that there are ways to carry their own baby is empowering. For some people, healing from past experiences has come while wearing their exquisite new child. During 2014 I will be broadening my reach to help more people in this way – on June 18th I will be inviting you to a talk in Woy Woy “From Birth to Babywearing – Special Needs”.
This website has been a long time coming, and it has a long way to go before it offers us the easy, simple, informative place I would like it to be for you… but I’m working on it!
In the meantime my FaceBook page contains Current Stock Albums, Special Offers, all the Brands and Products that I stock, so please have a look there too.
You can also find out about my market locations and dates, and arrange for my mobile market to come to your mother’s group, playgroup or baby shower.
this is a journey I am enjoying every step of!
